How to Fix a Broken IT Infrastructure

How to Fix a Broken IT Infrastructure

If you have a lot of complaints about your IT, you’re not alone. Turns out, business technology complaints are one of the most common frustrations for companies. We’re here to tell you, however, that you don’t have to live with broken technology; you can instead take steps to fix it, and it’s not as difficult as you might think.

Determine the Problem

Before you can solve the problems your business faces, you need to have some idea for what needs to be fixed. When all else fails, you can sniff around and see what you find. You can also ask employees what their biggest pain points are.

Know Your Goals

Once you have an idea of the problem, you can start getting creative with solutions. For example, you might need to find solutions for problems with unreliable or slow Internet connections, secure logins, file sharing, and so on. Be specific with your goals, and while it’s okay to shoot for the moon, make sure you’re being realistic with what you can (and can’t) do.

Fix Your Budget

While money is definitely an issue your business can’t ignore, you also need to set aside time in your schedule to make adjustments to your infrastructure. Otherwise, the issues you want to resolve simply won’t get done. Focus down on your priorities, then build your plan from there.

Start from the Ground Up

Before you get too carried away, remember that nothing can be built on an unsteady foundation. Here are some of the basics to keep in mind:

  • Internet that works - If your connection is slow or spotty, everything else falls apart. Upgrade if you have to.
  • Strong security - Firewalls, antivirus software, multi-factor authentication, and make sure you and your team have solid passwords in place.
  • Regular backups - Losing customer data is a nightmare. Set up cloud backups and make sure they're automatic.

Reimagine the Tools You Use

If you’re still using tools from when you first started your business, you’re probably in a prime position to implement more modern ones, like those that utilize the cloud. Remember, innovation can help your business not only survive, but thrive.

Consider the Future

Imagine where your business will be five years from now. You might be hiring, expanding, or pivoting in a different direction. You want to make plans that will stand the test of time. Cloud solutions, for example, can scale well and won’t need a serious revamp over time.

You Can Lean on the Experts

Look, not everyone is an IT specialist. That’s why you need to have someone you can count on to answer your questions and help you implement solutions as needed. Fortunately, we know some pretty helpful folks who can help you out.

Don’t Be Afraid to Try New Things

Technology doesn’t remain static, and you can’t hope that it will. Check in on your strategy to make sure it works. After all, your business might be in an entirely different situation in just a couple short months, and you need to be ready to adapt.
